Johann Nortje is a Pretoria based sculptor, born in 1980. He studied Fine Arts at T.U.T for non-diploma purposes focusing on sculpture. The focus of his sculptures is centered on finding links between the spiritual and the mundane, with severe interest in the roots of ancestry, mythology and cultural traditions.

Johann spent time honing his skill on the production teams for Angus Taylor, William Kentridge, Gerhard Marx, Norman Catherine and the late Neels Coetzee. Since then has installed a public sculpture of his own, exhibited locally and internationally in Italy and won the runner-up position in the 2010 PPC Young Concrete Sculptors Award.
